Sacred Heart Church is a Roman Catholic church and parish in Wimbledon, South West London

Sometimes working with drones you discover these hidden gems, with a new perspective on an area you really do see things that often you will just walk past. I was conducting a drone roof inspection in the heart of Wimbledon and on completion I raise the UAV high above the flats and discovered the Sacred Heart Church.

Editorh Arendrup founded the church in 1877 when she moved to Wimbledon from the wealthy Courtauld family. It was a time when few Catholics lived in the area, so she persuaded the Jesuits at Roehampton to set up a Mass centre at her home in Cottenham Park. The church was built seven years later in a prominent position on Edge Hill. A young architect, Frederick Walters, designed the Grade II* listed building in the late Decorated Gothic style

In 1887, the newly built church's nave was dedicated on the feast of the Sacred Heart. Construction continued for fourteen years while the rest of the building was constructed: the sanctuary and south aisle were completed in 1895, the back chapels in 1896, the north aisle and sacristy in 1898, and the west elevation in 1901. There was originally supposed to be a large tower on the west front, but money ran out, so it was replaced with twin turrets and a traceries window. Edith Arendrup is commemorated with a monument on the south wall of the church: “It was through her Christian vision that this parish of the Sacred Heart came into being; it was through her generosity the church was built".

The school is adjacent to Wimbledon College, Donhead School for boys (served by the Jesuits) and Ursuline High and Ursuline Preparatory Schools for girls (hosted by the Ursulines), which have close relationships with the parish. Various worship services are held at the church during the school year.

I could resit flying around the amazing church so I produces a little video from my DJI Mavic 2 Pro. I created the video in 2K and with the perfect weather I was pleased with the results. I've recently been using Adobe Rush for these type of mini videos. I seriously impressed with the the editing software and also available to download on your mobile or tablet making editing on the move a doddle.

Enjoy the video and let me know what you think, also if you are in the area, please take the time to have a look that this amazing building located in the heart of Wimbledon.
